Hike - Whitewater Canyon
Come join us at Whitewater Canyon, a newly established park in the southern part of Dubuque County. This park is full of wide grassy trails along with 13 caves, some of which we can stop to explore if you bring a flashlight. You will be able to see rock work that was done in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corp. We will hike to a scenic overlook above the Maquoketa River. The area does have ticks and definitely wild turkey. This is one you will not want to miss. Restrooms are NOT available.
Go north out of Davenport on US 61 North approximately 50 miles to Zwingle (which is about 16 miles north of Maquoketa). Turn left onto 300th/Union Street which ends up turning into Washington Mills Road. After about 5.5 miles this road meets up with Moloney Road where you will turn right (northwest) and go about 1 mile. At the “T” intersection is Higginsport Road (also D55), turn left to head west. Continue west on Higginsport Road passing through the town of Bernard for about 4.6 miles. Turn left (southwest) onto Curoe Road, go just over 1 mile south to the park entrance. These roads up to the park are all paved roads. It’s a small parking lot, so park close together.
